Morning ALL, as there has been a bit of discussion on this site re: our NEW Digital Photography Club I thought that I would give you all an update from our first "Open" meeting held last night.
I had sent a press release to the local "free" newspapers detailing the club and the meeting date and time etc...with this press release I had put a contact number, I had received about 10 enquiry phone calls so were confident of at least a few of those turning up.
7.30pm came and a few new faces were being welcomed into the Village Hall, 7.45pm and we had over 30 people there all with an interest in Digital Photography.
A very interesting mix of people from compact users to high end DSLRs across all age ranges, all of them seemed very receptive to what we have planned and I am very confident that the majority of them will be back next week.
Only one chap suggested that it might not be for him as he thought his level of photography was more advanced than some of the people in the room, this comment was made in private after the meeting but was possibly fair and valid and he of course is entitled to his opinion, he was however offered the opportunity to speak in the future at a meeting "lets see how good he really is then".
The point here is that we pitched the club across all levels of capabilities and these was very positively noted by the prospective members there last night, many who said that they were glad a "club like this had been developed" and will see us next week!
We also approached the local Arts Council for funding whose Chairman came along last night to see "what we were all about", he even got up and gave a few words on how funding was offered and what was available to us, NOTE : they do not fund CAPITAL EQUIPMENT but do have lots of money available, fortunately we seemed to tick all of his criteria boxes.
Early indications seem to be that there is a demand for this type of club so to our Southern Togs - go for it.....
