Dear wise lighting sages....

Whilst mostly quietly lurking and reading/absorbing this forum, I have bought my YN 622N triggers for my SB700 and my Sppedlighters Handbook ( a great book btw) and been gently tinkering....

I think it is now time to buy a soft box for my sb700 - any good recommendations?

I would like to not buy cheap and twice and get something good. I really like the idea of honeycombs to control the light - I have been readings Gary's Lencarta blog. As ever, funds are not as deep as I would like (I have a starving recording studio to feed).

Cheers

You cant go wrong with a cheap umbrella and a simple rectangular softbox. Can pick up a shoot through and a reflective silver one for under a tenner. Might even be able to find a octo box for the flash head. But depends on what you will be using it for and what style of shooting you intend to do.

Thats personally what I would do.

What is an octobox as opposed to a soft box?

An octabox is a softbox. It just has an octagonal shape, rather than rectangular or square. Some people like the shape of the catchlights it produces.

Don't get too big a softbox if you're planning to use it with a hotshoe flashgun
