My first ever attempt at extreme HDR - comments?

I think it would be helpful if you could articulate what you were trying to achieve.

I mean, what I see is:
- some pretty heavy and (to my eye) clumsy and unnecessary vignetting
- an artificially bright halo around the tree
- the sun is blown out
- there's no real detail in the shadows
and I thought the whole point of HDR was to avoid things like blown highlights and lack of shadow detail.

So to my mind it doesn't look like a "successful" HDR. But I don't know what you were after, so my comments might be totally inappropriate.

I often use a 'bit' of HDR to bring details out of the shadows so do like the technique, used carefully, but do agree with Stewart's comments. What method did you use for the HDR to help us understand where you're coming from?

I was actually after an unreal image - it looks better at full resolution (that's on my laptop at home - I'm at work at the moment). The vignetting was added (on purpose) in CS6.

I have a better image of a field with hay bails that is not as 'heavyily' HDR'd. I used a program called Photomatix which pretty much does all the 'legwork' for you but agree it does lack the 'control'.

Like I said, it was my first ever attempt, I'll keep practicing lol

If you like it that's all that matters

I tend to 'let my hair down' very often, with some shots, & whilst I may like them I'm sure others may not
