Hi everyone so I have been creating content on Instagram for a while using my phone camera and I would really like to make my first camera purchase to help me improve my content.
I usually do product photography/ reels so 4K video capability is a must but other than that I have no idea where to begin.
Any advice much appreciated, thanks in advance

Do you have a budget in mind?
And maybe your instagram user name so that people can get a better idea of what you want.

Because I am a Panasonic-Lumix user, I would say you couldn't do better than a Lumix GH6, but a G90/95 may be a better place to start.

If it is mainly for reels, most of the big name pro content creators are using a Sony A7IV with the Sony 50mm f/1.2 G.M lens. I only know this as my brother did some research around this recently.

That is quite a big investment though £4500 before you add on the cost of a gimbal and accessories etc.

Maybe one of the M43 cameras and a 25mm lens would be a good starting point. Most of the current M43 bodies will do 4k and 25mm is the equivalent to 50mm focal range on full frame. With the limitation that you are not going to get that crazy f/1.2 d.o.f that the pro content creators seem to favour.

I don’t have a particular budget in mind at the moment, but a good sturdy camera body with a couple of lenses would be my ideal starting point. My username is Chronicbeautylover

Sony A1 is best all round kit before you step up to dedicated video options. A7IV is passable, and maybe whenever they release a7RV that will be on the list too.

you want 4K, ideally higher, 60fps min, ideally RAW capable or failing that 10bit with log and good codec support and probably a reliable AF. You may feel very shortly that anything less was a waste of your money.

After looking at your Insta account, I'm intrigued to know what and how you think a new camera will help improve your content? Considering it is Insta and will only be viewed on small phone screens or maybe tablets, I personally think a high end 4k camera would be overkill.

I'm not knocking you for wanting to improve, I'm just curious to know, as the step up from using your phone to using a high end camera is a massive learning curve to boot. As Steve says, a GoPro, DJI Pocket, or even a higher end phone, something along those lines would more than do the trick for Insta.

Hey I am really grateful for you being honest!
Perhaps you are right and maybe I am barking up the wrong tree. I think perhaps I need to work on my lighting and background and just keeping learning.
Maybe a new phone is the answer.
Thanks everyone for your help
