A friend of mine as organised a boxing show to make some money for a young lad that is seriously ill. All the boxers are amateur (very), but its a great cause. He as asked me if I would like to attend and have a go at getting some ringside action.

it is something I had never thought of doing but would love to have a go.

Do I have the right kit to do the job some justice?

7d, 17-55 2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 70-200mm f2.8, might possibly have 5d mk3 also. I have planned to visit a few sparring sessions prior to the event

any advice would be really welcome

the 5d3 will be better if you can..full fram and less noise.. its going to be poor lighting and you dont want to use flash

the 17-55 should do the job.. personally i would use the 50 on the 5d because i ahve enough to do without zzoming :)

set your camera up so your using center spot...set it up so you can easily flick it to the left and right.. you dont want it center..you want to be able to easy move left and right with joystick if you ahve it? two boxers close up will be at the sides of your view.. if you go to point at one suing center you will cut the other off.. takes years of practice to time a shot on a punch.. so its gonna be a bit machione gun time.. not too much but deffo bursts :)

Thanks Tony,
Been toying with the idea of full frame for a while, think the time as come!!
I have planned several visits to the fighters sparring sessions, so hopefully this will be a learning curve for the timing aspect. Can do machine gun mode also, got loads of memory cards, lol
regards
Steve
