There is apparently a firmware update for my dvd recorder that sits under the tv.

If i download it to my computer how do i go about updating the firmware on the recorder? put it onto a disc or something??

There should be instructions as to how to update the firmware either in the DVD player manual or on the site where the update is coming from. If you're not sure how to do it, my advice would be to live with the player as it is - messing up a firmware update could render the player useless.

Hmm seeing as how Ive only just done the first recording with it in its 18 month life (we use it for playing them mostly) I think I will take your advice and leave well alone as it works!

You normally burn the image onto a CD, pop it into the player & it then recognises it as an update & loads It :)

On my DVD recorder it increased the speed/types of discs it would record to

I too found an improvement of the DVr's performance since Pioneer released an update. It handled +R discs better and the menus were a little better.

I burnt the firmware to disc and put the disc in the tray, turned off the machine and then fired it up.
the rest was automatic :)

It should be ok as long as the power doesn't go off mid update.. then it will probably be screwed. But I would also say if you aren't confident don't do it.

Go on, DO IT !!!!!

It's no more risky than Sensor cleaning........

;)
