firewire video output

Hi Everybody
Is there a device to play video files from an old camcorder via FireWire too that converts to avi video files. asking for a friend. I know that you can get a FireWire to USB converter cable possibly only a suitable software format to do this.
Something straightforward my friend is elderly and easily put off.

iSkysoft video editor will do the conversion, once you've got the video off the camcorder, provided it's in a compatible format. Available in both Mac and Windows with a free trail version. (I think the free trial is limited to a certain length of video). Its fairly straight forward, drag n drop aproach
