There was an update to Firefox today (currenrtly running version 49.0.2) and now when I try to get on to Wikipedia I get the following message -

"The owner of en.wikipedia.org has configured their web site improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site.
This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."

Just tried Firefox Help and I get -

"The owner of support.mozilla.org has configured their web site improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site."

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Dave

Running 49.0.2 and not having this problem :)

Not with this update but Firefox updates have caused several problems in the past. Whenever I see an update I always create a restore point before allowing it to proceed.
Have you got a recent restore point you could use?

Thanks for the replies. Don't know what has happened overnight but both Wikipedia and Firefox Help are not accessible.

I heard on the radio that there had been an attempt to "break" the Internet overnight.

Someone must have googled Google !!!

Me too ... sadly it seems to have failed! :D

Actually it was an attack against the well known dynamic DNS firm Dyn. And yes when a DNS service gets disrupted it can seem like it breaks the internet but doesn't really it was still running just fine.

It think the OP has more of a problem with their internet connection, or someone is trying to perform a man in the middle attack. Although it often can happen on badly configured corporate wifi, or public wifi and hotel access points where they want to analyse the traffic and do it badly. My initial advice would be to double check how the OP connects to the internet.

As others on here did not see the same problem as me, I assume it was caused by some setting on my machine that in some way affected Firefox, for a limited period.

Every other browser I tried yesterday evening could access Wikipedia, it was just Firefox that could not. However, every other website I tried to access via Firefox last night worked; it was only Wikipedia (and the Firefox Help) that could not be accessed.

I tried rebooting a few times yesterday but that did not work, however, this morning all was OK, but I would have liked to know the cause.

Just realised I made a typo in post #4, sorry. It should have said, " Thanks for the replies. Don't know what has happened overnight but both Wikipedia and Firefox Help are now accessible."
