I'm looking to upgrade from my Nikon D50. I like landscape, close up and flowers, but also have a young family, so plenty there. I'm not too fussed about working in RAW, and won't be shooting anything requiring so many frames per second.

So, would you recommend a second hand D200 or a FinePix S5 Pro, or would you just get a Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 to go with the D50 and compliment the Sigma 17-70mm and 105mm?

I have both and prefer my S5 PRO for the range of colours and vibrancy out of camera. Its much slower than the D200 though. Physically they are identical. The S5 Pro is also excellent if you mess up the exosure, can pull lots back from the shadows and highlights.

Gary.

My equipment consists of Nikon D70s with kit lens , i have jsut bought FinePix S5 Pro, what lens would be best to use on FinePix S5 Pro, i normally do wedding photography. at present i use a Sigma 18-50 2.8 which my friend was kind enough to lend me. also what flash *** give reults. i use sigma flash Nikon mount which i use on Nikon D70s

The S5 Pro takes much nicer pictures that the D200.

You really seem to be asking "new body" or "new lens" with reference to the Tamron 70-200 though. Decide what you need, as you've not said why you need either. Answer those questions, and all will become clear.

What about an S5 Pro and a Tamron 70-200  That would be just about sedate enough for me.

Seriously though, I like my D50, if a bit small, but I find the images a tad flat. Obviously, that could be more to do with me or my settings than the camera itself, or my choice of lens.

I believe you have experience of all?

Both you and EdinburghGary have answered my question on body. I have never had an issue with sharpness, it is that vibrancy that I feel is lacking from my photography.

If I can find the right deals, I will get the S5 and the Tamron.

The Tamron 70-200 is superb optically, but the AF is quite slow too be honest.

Tamron really needs to make this lens camera-body driven as I reckon, and maybe keep the current version for D40, D60 and D40x owners.

Ben Hur,

what *** u suggest i use, with my S5pro. the lens?
and which flash *** be good on it?

Its also the cheapest of the 70-200mm f2.8 range

Bristol Cameras Prices:

Tamron £429
Sigma £539

So, apart from being the slowest of the group, it is faster than the 55-200mm, and I'm not too sure a teleconverter would be of much use on the Nikon.

Used D200's go for less than £400 and New S5 Pro's can be found for a few pounds more.

That would be about a £800 pound upgrade that gives me the speed and vibrancy I am looking for.

Gary,

which lens u suggest i use, with my S5pro? for night oudoor flash photography
( i normally do weddings and events, parties) and which flash would be good on it? i used sigma lens 18 50 mm 1:2.8 EX D which i borrowed from my freind, and Sigma EF-500 DG super flash but, had problems with auto focusing..

The Tamron 17-50 is a superb lens on the S5 Pro. The Nikkor 17-50 would also be close to the top of my list.

The Sigma 17-70 is excellent on the S5 Pro.

If it is "vibrancy" you want then definitely get the S5 Pro.

It really can pull the colours out of a shot

I'm thinking of buying the S5 Pro, it looks like a good buy for around £440 I may try and trade in my F100 that should knock £2.50 off the price :)

does a S5 have a battery pack like the one Nikon has.?

It has a battery, yes, but although it looks identical to the Nikon one they're not interchangeable. If you mean a grip, then that D200 one, the MB-D200 fits and accepts the Fuji batteries
