Getting my setup. Lights and backdrop. All very new to me.

If you could give me 1 piece of advice what would it be??

Start with a singe light till you thoroughly understand what it can do In the way of modelling texture and mood.
Then add a reflector.
That is all you need for great portraits.
every thing else can be a bonus or disaster.

^^^ Yes

Three things are fundamental to studio work, and always apply:
- The larger the light source, the softer the shadows. Size is relative to distance, so a larger light used further away becomes effectively smaller. And vice versa.
- Brightness reduces quickly with distance, following the inverse square law. Basically, if you double the distance from light to subject, brightness is reduced to one quarter.
- Light bounces off a surface at the same angle it strikes, like a snooker ball off the cushion, eg when positioning reflectors.

Gosh! Sorry guys, did not realise it's been discontinued. Such a shame! I suppose second hand one would be the only option. It is worth giving a shout in the WANTED section of the forum.
A real gem it is indeed.
