I know there are lots of threads about filters out there, this one is slightly differen't, not sure if I've posted this in the right spot.

I'm off to ireland tomorrow for a week, and I've been umming and ahing about getting some filters (ND grads and a circ. pol.) to ensure I can capture the scenary as best I can. Looking to get the Cokin P type filters so I can just get the adapters for each of my lenses. The only thing is I don't really want to spend tonnes of money straight away for something I might find I don't end up using regularly, but at the same time I've read that some people haven't liked the cokin p series, and recommend hitech ones instead or kood, so I'm somewhat confused. Is there a straight answer? has someone tried all three and can give a preference?

Also, I've been thinking this over and almost ordering then delaying etc for so long now, its almost too late to buy anything. Where can I get filters at such short notice? anyone in the london area selling them second hand?

final question, I've just got three lenses for my canon 350D, stock 18 - 55, a canon 75 - 300 (I think off the top of my head, don't use this one much) and sigma 24 - 70 2.8, will I have any problems with the cokin p series on these lenses?

I know Hi Tech are pretty pricey..... but very good. :)
 
problems going to be getting them before I go really. If only I made my mind up sooner.
 
I use my hitech grads for most of my shots, couldn't live without them really. As has been said before the Cokin filters do have a slight colour tint, which i why i went for hitechs.

If the weather stays like this, then i'd say a polarizer is a must.

As far as i know only teamworks sell the hitch filters, cokin filters can be bought from most camera shops, but i've no idea about anywhere in london.

No problems with using them on the lenses you have, I don't get any vignetting from the cokin P holder on my 17mm. Though you do get some on the Sigma 10-20, unless you chop the outer two filter holders off.

Sorry mate - only just seen this thread!

I have heard of people ascribing a colour cast to cokin, but i have never noticed this with mine (and i'm sure a little PS would remove). They're cheap and versatile and you can get them from Jessops. Contrary to popular opinion, Ireland has moved out of the dark ages and you should be able to get these whilst you're away if you run out of time today :)

most camera shops sell filters and holders and adaptor - they arent the cheapest place to get them, but you can get a look at them (kind of) before you buy. I have a Cokin P holder and a load of filters (that I bought from someone on here) and they are great. I havent had chance to use them much, but when I have they have been really usefull. You should be able to pick up a holder, adaptor and ND grad for not too much, under £50 for sure, I would have thought.
