Filters in your hand luggage

Hi Everyone

New here and first post, so first up: apologies for poor etiquette in using that first post to pose a question.

Have just bought some square ND filters and was wondering if anyone has had any problems packing them in hand luggage when getting on a plane? I'm thinking that the glass edges could be seen as a weapon and therefore banned? Want to take them on my hols but don't trust them not getting crushed in my suitcase.

Anyway, apologies again, will definitely be contributing with plenty of daft 'new to photography' questions in the future.

Thanks.

Hi, And welcome to TP. I've never had a problem taking filters on any flight as hand luggage. Even on flights to the USA around the time of 9/11 when security was very high. Hope this helps.

TBH, I usually shove filters and other non-shock-sensitive or valuable kit in the hold baggage to save weight and bulk in the carry on but have never had any problems with filters being in hand baggage when I've left them in there. Many square system filters are resin (plastic) anyway, not that that makes them any less useful as weapons!
Always makes me laugh to myself when sharps get confiscated as potential weapons. If I wanted to cause harm on a plane, I would either use a 2lb+ club (available from airside shops at all airports) or break the club to create an edged weapon...
