OK, i am slowly working my way through the many pages here, and see the subject has been done before, but can anyone please tell me what filters can I use on a Canon 10-22 - I will want to use polarizing, and Nd grad's - I think filter screw is 77mm.
The reason I have chosen this lens is to use it as wide as possible, so don't want to worry about seeing bits of holder or whatever in the image.
So, who makes what that will work ??

I meant to add that a circular polarizing filter would be good, as it can also fit the other lens I am buying.. (yes, I know that if cokin or whoever make a flat filter it too can fit both, but a screw on would be best..)

Hi Steve

Hoya make a decent Circ pol for not a vast sum of cash - a bit of a shop around on ebay will sort you out on that. For the ND Grads your best bet would probably be a Cokin holder and adaptor ring and then Hitech filters. They are generally reckoned to be a good bet as some people think that Cokin grads can leave a slight colour cast. I've used a Cokin wide angle holder and standard Hitech filter on my 24-70mm which has an 82mm thread with no signs of vignetting at all.

Steve,
I don't know enough about the Hi tech holder, but have heard their filters are as good as the Cokin P series.

If you are using the wide angle and it has a 77mm thread, make sure you consider the cokin P series 'wide angle' holder rather than the regular one for ND Grads. This only has one slot rather than three so sits much closer to the camera and doesn't show up at the edges of the image.

For general filters, there are lots of different brands, where they are at similar prices, it just comes down to personal choice. I tend to go for Hoya filters, but even they have more than one standard. I also use Cokin P series ND Grads and think they are great.
Link to cheap Hoya filters I have posted on this forum before....a 77mm Hoya Polarising Filter is more than £100 in many places, less than £50 here.
Hope that helps!

Witch - Why a Cokin holder - won't a Hitech holder do the job ?

I'm sure it would - but I'm not sure they make a wide angle holder. Jas has explained the benefits of the wide angle holder extremely concisely above! That's a handy link for a Hoya Circ Pol as well - I think I remember someone telling me that Loobylins (also on ebay) do a decent price too.
