Hi,

Looking for a filter system for the Fuji X-T1 and my lenses. Seen the LEE system but lots of money. Want to try out some sunsets and slow shutter shots so would need a few nd grad filters and perhaps a polarising filter?

Thought an attachment type would be better as can slide filters in and out or am I best just buying the lens based filters?
Matt

Thanks for that. Will have a look. Have you used one? Good?

@FujiMatt

I have the 85mm Hitech system for my Fuji's and I also use circular screw in Full ND filters. If I want to use them simultaneously I attach the holder to the outside of the ND filter which is attached to the lens.

If you want to do sunsets you should also consider a reverse grad.http://www.formatt-hitech.com/kits/nd-reverse-grad-resin-filter-kit - the one filter that I haven'y yet invested in!

Can’t see a 58mm version? The 18-55 I’ve just bought is a 58mm thread. Matt

Wow still quite pricey lol.

Personally I would 'invest' in some cheap filters first to find out if filters are even for you. Then if they are, you can then 'upgrade' as required.

The cheap filters won't be perfect, and often they might have colour casts, but they will give you a flavour of what you can expect when using them.

They can be a hassle, and some effects like grads can be simulated in post production, however you can't in software simulate full ND filters (like a 10 stopper) or a polarising filter.

You will find that if you expose the Fuji cameras correctly (especially the X-T2 when you get one next year) you can recover a lot of shadow detail. You can also take bracketed images and combine in PP afterwards.

If you are going to buy screw in filters, you are best buying the largest size that you might need in the future and use step rings to fit to lenses. step rings are cheap.

All my screw in ND filters are 72mm, and I have 58->72mm, 62->72mm and 67->72mm step rings

And as I've mentioned before, I'm only just up the road, if you want a trial run with filters, PM me and we'll organise a suitable time. I have plenty of filters (including some 58mm ones), and can demonstrate the effects between cheap, middle of the range and high end filters with regard to IQ.

Hi,

Yes that would be great. I go on holiday 1st Dec for a week so will probably be after that if that’s suitable for you?

Will do. Might get chance before I go on holiday but just hectic this next week or so at least.
