Filter Holder Help

for landscape / portrait but im totaly new to filter done abit of research and seams id need Natural Density, Graduated Filter, Polarizer

unsure what would help for portrait

also would the round filters be better or the filter holders so i can use on other lens, so id only need adapter ring and not more then 1 filter in different sizes

what make etc without going mad on prices

I would go for 77mm filters as this seems to be a common Max size (2 of my sigma lenses are this size) and then use step up adapters for smaller lenses. I have a 55-77 and 72-77 adapters, I can then use my filters on all lenses.

Hitech 100mm holder and a 0.6/0.9 hard grad. ND of whatever strength you fancy. Polarisers are serious money for a filter holder, usualy need 105mm and a holder ring.

Or If you want to buy once, change the Hitech for Lee.

With a wide angle adapter you should be able to use Cokin P sized filters on that lens without issue. Avoid actual Cokin or Hitech filters though, get Kood ones for your ND ones.

If you're going with 85mm square filters then 7dayshop have some cheap holders and adapters, mine were delivered really quickly too.

The Lee Foundation Kit (filter holder) and I would say a 0.9 soft, 0.6 hard & 0.9 hard (Lee) would be all you need for graduated ND's.

As mentioned above a 105mm polarizer will fit onto the front of the filter holder (via an adapter ring) but will set you back £250 ish. Alternatively you could opt for a 77mm (or 72mm) screw in polarizer then place the filter holder on top of that but this may cause some slight vignetting.

Yep, either the ebay one you linked above or the ones from 7dayshop here: http://www.7dayshop.com/photo-video-supplies/lens-filters-filter-accessories?cat=566 would fit standard 85mm square filters.

Cheap NDs will give you a horrible colour casr (compared to the Lee's for example). Personally I'd avoid buying cheap as one usually ends up being disappointed and then having to buy something more 'proper', meaning they've wasted money.

Exactly this.

Everyone ends up with Lee kit at the end anyway so save yourself money and get it at the start, that's what I did!

I can understand spending more on the actual filters, I don't know what a Lee filter holder does that justifies being almost 20 times the price of a cheap one though.

yeah that was my idea, couldnt see how there woukd be that much in difference for a simple filter holder, i wouldnt buy cheap filters

A Lee holder is £55 so unless you can find a 100mm holder for £2.75 it isn't 20 times the price!

The ebay holder listed earlier is 85mm so you won't be able to fit lee filters into it. You can get Hitech 85mm but Ideally I'd really recommend getting a 100mm set up for landscapes.
