Yes
Two more cameras put through their paces recently and they appear to be in good working order. Stuck with filmdev for the developing and scanning, good results so far.. Next on the test list are: a Ricoh KR 10 and a Cosina CSM. I'm looking for more cameras to test. The bug has bitten and I need to be sensible. Why continue to buy cameras that take M42 lenses? Should I spend my savings on testing out different lenses?

Interesting hobby if you have spare cash, but for me it was a great hobby testing cameras and lenses about 10-20 years ago when they were all going for peanuts. I tried/played with about forty 35mm slrs and about 10 compacts and about 60 lenses, and would throw away ones even with minor faults and buy another same one (if I liked the camera). e.g. gave up on Konica FT-1 after buying three as I couldn't get one working properly because of the stupid design of clamping two flexible printed circuits together as over time moisture (or whatever) breaks continuity....tried cleaning but couldn't solve it. my Konica FS-1 just about works intermittenly so learnt.....be wary of buying the last made Konica cameras, same for other makes of cameras from experience e.g Olympus OM10 where you have to buy an adapter to use manual shutter speed settings etc etc o_O

Yes, it was a great time then. Pop into a charity shop, give them ten or fifteen pounds for a camera that would have cost more than a hundred before digital knocked out film and off for a morning's fun.

Grab shot with a cheap Canon Eos 100...

I've posted this before but to me it's still amusing......I only bought about 10 well known compacts for about 50p to £1 each at the bootie just to see the look on my wife's face when I said "I thought you would like another camera". But from Nikon to Canon they all took VG shots but compacts are not for me.

Using old film cameras is good fun, no doubt, but I wonder if you have a purpose beyond curiosity (which is a perfectly valid purpose on its own of course)? Are you writing a blog, podcast or similar?

I use film cameras for fun with a view to making videos that hopefully will help others who wish to use the same cameras as there is a rise in interest from a new generation who did not grow up with film. It does get costly to be honest and so has to be considered a hobby at this time.

I just love going back in time and doing what I did in the 70's. Not into cars or golf or football or clothes or drinking in pubs etc. I've had cameras and lenses given or bought cheapy ones off fleabay. The Ricoh KR10 and lens cost under £20, great value in my opinion. I hate seeing STUFF going to waste, they need to be used and loved and given an opportunity to shine.

One of the biggest bargains for M42 lenses (at the bootie years ago) was the MTL3 kit in a camera bag with 35mm Flektagon, 50mm Tessar and 135mm Sonnar going for £15 to £23, well I bought two as I knew the lenses could have problems with the sticky Iris mechanism that needed to be cleaned (easy to do)...well the biggest mistake I made, just before film cameras became scarce (at the bootie), was the guy wanted £23 for his kit and thought I don't need another camera bag and more M42 lenses......but looking at prices for the 35mm Flektagon  o_O

If you like doing this, there is a way to do it very cheaply, but you don't get to keep the cameras...

I volunteer (and now work) at a charity shop where camera donations used to be sold "untested" because they didn't have the knowledge to test them. When I started, they were quite happy for me to take the cameras home, test them, and give them back with a rough price tag as well as a "fully working" sticker. We quickly moved to selling them on ebay, but I have lost count of the number of different cameras I've had to play with. Just a thought if you enjoy doing this.

The strangest 35mm camera I bought at the bootie was the Topcon uni if you come across this one you will see what I mean.
