(Please don't shoot me down this is not a fishing thread I am conisdering various options).

Can anyone point me to specialist/shop who deal with film SLRs? (ideally midlands)

I have box full of film SLRs and some accesories, I doubt they are worth a great deal as all have been well used and I am not sure of which ones are fully working etc.

I am wondering if there are any shops still dealing with Film SLRs who might make a reasonable offer for the whole lot and save me hours and hastle on ebay etc...

There are quite a number of photographic shops who deal with used equipment, including film cameras, but I don't know of any particular film specialist as such in the Midlands. However, you could try looking through the UK Camera database:

http://www.ukcamera.com/

Click on "used specialists" at the top and it'll give you a list of second-hand dealers up and down the country.

Richard....Look at ffordes. They have a big stock; and usually have a good price.

Do you have any particular SLR in mind

Whack them in the classifieds here - there's a surprising number of people who want to shoot, or do shoot film.

Of course, you'll need to have prices for them, but that's not difficult using ebay and looking at completed listings.

EDIT: Just seen you only have 3 posts. In that case, stay a while while you get your prices sorted :D

I've only just joined and don't have enough posts yet to sell ??? (I THINK).

Going throuhg it all tonight hopefully, Cataloguing whats in the boxes and checking for obvious faults (missing pieces). I will then decide the best way forward.

I think there is one in the stoke area but the name escapes me. CT will probably know who I'm on about, they've been mentioned on TP a couple of time before.

I need another 90 odd posts before I can sell or respond to a wanted add :(

I might indeed have some OM lenses ;)

no you can respond to an add as long as you have pm (otherwise payment is tricky)

that also gets low subtlety points :D

I thought selling via PM is not condone on this forum. Ok so not being able to post itmes for sale is one thing, but responding to a wanted ad on the actual post surely can't do any harm ?

Oh well I'll keep posting and hope to reach the magic 100 posts soon.

if they have a wanted ad then its all good, but you can't start a new thread

You only need pm to arrange the details of payment/shipping, pm is available after 5 or 10 posts think, the deal itself must be conducted in thread, which must be in either the wanted or for sale sub forums, nowhere else..:)

Know how you feel, I've had to sell some stuff on ebay that would no doubt have been of interest to people on here - doesn't seem to make much sense :(

I've got to the point where I can sell on here, but the only time I tried I had an awkward experience so have continued selling on ebay.

I get good prices on ebay, yes the charges Ebay and Paypal suck but but its been a far better experience.

What sort of awkward experiences did you have? I've bought and sold a fair bit on here over the last year and not had any problems.

Makes pretty good sense to me, I'd sooner buy from someone who's been on the site for a good while, who contributes to the "community" and who I can "get a feel for" via the postings they have made. Last thing I want to do is fork over my hard-earned to some "dump and run" seller who isn't going to be around after all the bits they sell have gone.

It's a shame that happened pepper, though I have to say, I've only bought one item on here, and the whole experience was great - Hi Chris BTW  - The camera (eos-3 body) was as near as mint as makes no difference, even down to almost complete original packaging (missing only the warranty cards - even had the little custom function stickers unused in there:D). Whole transaction sorted in one Friday afternoon, and the following Monday morning I'd a lovely camera which hasn't missed a frame since!

In the end, the classified section is (or should be) a bonus for the regular members of this community, not just a cut price alternative to fleabay. 30 days and 100 posts is no big deal - I've been on here just over a year and clocked up 1200 posts - or around 100 a month - and I'm by no means one of the more prolific posters in here.

If you've got an entire box of cameras that you've had for the last 10-20 years, surely, having them in the loft for another month or two isn't going to kill you is it? (pepper - I know your circumstances are far different to this scenario, and to be honest, with the kit you had to get rid of, i'd have gone the Ebay route as well )

Don't get me wrong I've bought some film from here and the deal was brilliant.

It was just me putting a camera on for sale for someone and me mentioning I had some lenses which then went all wrong.

I just personally felt awkward.

I made a big mistake of selling some of my old gear to second hand shops (well, it was a big mistake selling some of it, full stop) because I didn't trust Ebay. I overcame that last year and have had no real issues (apart from a couple of people backing out at the last minute forcing me to relist). I tend to track similar items for a while and if they go for a reasonable amount do a Buy It Now with "Make me an Offer" - you may have to wait a little longer (I always do the 30day listing) but you generally get the price that you wanted (or even a bit more) whereas the prices achieved with auctions can vary a lot.

Glad to hear you're in it for the long haul mate... It's a great place, and over the year or so I've been on here, I've learned quite a bit, hopefully helped one or two people myself, and enjoyed being part of the community. It's also had the welcome by-product of exposing me to a load of different techniques, convinced me to challenge myself to a photo-365, and improved my photography in many, many ways.
