Anyone know of a good old fashioned service centre or person for film cameras in or near kent

Thanks Rob, have sent him an email for a quote.

Steve.

I've used Miles a number of times myself and can only say good things about his work.

His email is not working Rob.

The email address listed on his website worked as of a few weeks ago. Assuming that you've typed it in correctly, perhaps it's just a temporary fault or outage?

Miles Whitehead is based down in Kent
http://www.mwcamerarepairs.co.uk/

He has a very good reputation with many of the folks in F&C having used him.

+1 he does an excellent service for a price much lower than most of his competitors - he quoted me £45 + P&P for a CLA for my Spotmatic F, when everywhere else had quoted figures ranging from £60 + P&P to £99! He even managed to get it back to me in time for an event I intended to take it to (he said he could not make any promises, but he would do his best to get it to me by the day before I needed it, and it came about 5 days before!)

Does he work on lenses too? I couldn't see them mentioned on the site.

Yes, he fixed a sticky aperture on my Pentax-M 85mm lens. It didn't quite work out the first time, and he took it back, fixed it for nowt, and paid the return postage. Top stuff...

He'll also tell you if he doesn't think he can fix something. The standoff spring on my Pentax ME is broken (diagnosed by Miles by email), and he apologised that the spring was impossible for him to source. I've put it into cold storage while I decide whether its critical place in my photographic life justifies a much more expensive CLA somewhere else!

Thanks gents.

I can only second (or third or whatever) what's been said above; I wouldn't send kit to anyone else unless it was particularly specialist and Miles told me that I'd be better off doing that. Which reminds me, I've been meaning to get my L-series FD lenses serviced for ages now. :)

I find with all camera techs that ringing is much faster and a more efficient way of getting in contact with them. The vast majority don't really care much for email or their online presence!

I want him to lavish some love and new seals on my newly aquired AE1, not that it needs them doing, I can't put it down its immaculate I want it as mint as can be:) Bliss
