Hi,

I tend to lurk on the forum rather than contribute, but I wondering whether one of you may be able to help.

I have lightroom 3, and am feeling like I am starting to understand it more than I did, but I'm having a problem I can not figure out the answer to.

My lightroom default to import photos is to my laptop, which 9 times out of 10 I remember to change so that the import goes directly to the external hard drive. There have been a few times I've forgotten, or I've imported photos when I'm not at home so the external hard drive isn't connected and I have about 15 folders of photos sat on my laptop (mac if it makes any difference).

I've been having a bit of a tidy up, and want to move all of the folders onto the external hard drive. For 3 or 4 folders all was going fine, and in lightroom I would create a new folder on the external hard drive, then select all the photos from a folder on the laptop and drag and drop them into the new folder.

I now seem to encountered a problem, and while everything looks like it is happening, nothing seems to happen. The warning box pops up telling me I'm moving a file on the disk, I click move and the progress bar appears top left, but then the bar doesn't move along at all. Previous folders were moving in a few minutes, I left the laptop running last night just asking it to move one photo, and absolutely no progress. I get the same response when I drag and drop whole folders. Interestingly, if I cancel a move (by clicking the x by the progress bar) and try to move the same photo again, I get an error message saying the file already exists at the destination, even though the new folder is showing as having 0 photos inside it.

I have searched the forums and googled and have been unable to come up with an answer, does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong or anything else I could try? I have re-started lightroom, and I'm 90% certain I've restarted the laptop, but I am going to restart it now just to check!

Thanks for your help :-)

I may have found the answer, and nothing to do with lightroom. The time capsule is showing as full, hence lightroom doesn't have any space to transfer files too. Off to research that now ...
