File sizes

Original NEF = 49MB

if I export the same file as a TIFF, size = 146MB

if I export same file as a JPEG XL, Lossless, size = 72MB

How can the TIFF and JPEG XL be bigger than the original NEF?

This cropped up when I was exporting a file from LR to print, following a "recommendation" that I use a TIFF file

Just Google it.

But in a nutshell a TIFF has been processed and may have colour profiles and many layers within it.

That's what I just thought about

when you process the file in LR you add more info to it therefore the file gets bigger

But I've just exported a NEF image .......all that's happened is the image was imported into LR, with no "processing" - then exported

Original NEF = 51.5MB
JPEG XL = 153MB
TIFF = 273MB

Internet
"When a NEF file is converted to TIFF, the camera's sensor data is processed into an RGB image, which requires more information than the original raw data and increases the file size."

Question:
but where does the TIFF file get the additional data from if it does not come in with the original (NEF) file?
