Any one have any ideas about the above or even know the problem?

Its starting to appear more often now, on the camera LCD the files look fine but when importing the contents of a memory card there will be a few of the above culprits hidden away.

When opened as RAW the error is still present.

Im guessing its either a) memory card issue, although it happens across both my sandisk 16gb cards b) camera body issue c) laptop issue.

Any guidance will be appreciated!

Are you downloading directly from the camera or through a card reader? If the former, I would recommend using a card reader as it is much faster and much less error prone. If your laptop has an in-built card reader, you could try that.

I suspect the images may actually be okay.

Thanks for the reply, I always use the built in card reader...

Are you deleting your files after transferring them to the computer/discs/hard-drive etc... or reformatting your memory cards each time?

If you're only deleting them from the card each time you re-use it then I suggest you try reformatting your card completely whilst in your camera.

And have you tried any cards other than Sandisk?

Try downloading onto another computer with a different card reader and see if it still happens, you'll narrow down the problem, also if you shoot jpeg and raw what happens? Can you upload one of the raws somewhere so we can open it (and try extracting the built in jpeg)?

That's a corrupted raw file. GPU errors would vanish as you resized the picture.

Most likely (based on it happening to me and a few others I know) is a faulty card reader.

Just possibly it could be the camera. Even less likely the card (since it affects 2). Try a new card reader and report back. Also, try importing a problem picture again and see if it persists on that image. This will isolate whether it's a creation or copying issue.

I've had this and it's usually corrupt data on the card. On the odd occasion this has happened I've binned the card.

You could also try downloading straight from the camera via a USB lead. This bypasses the card reader in the laptop, and therefore eliminates that. Quick and simple process. If the problem goes away then simply get a good external card reader

Do you format the card after each session, or simply delete the images. Formatting in the camera induces a low level check and marks any bad sectors which are then skipped.

If all else fails get a couple of new cards. They don't last forever and constant read /writes take there toll.

Thanks for all your replies, when I get home tonight I will try some of your tips!

I can also confirm I ALWAYS format the card on the camera and never delete them :)

Ok I have narrowed down the problem!

When copy and pasting the files in bulk from the card to my external hard drive via the internal card reader on my laptop a few RAWs become corrupted.

As a test I found a corrupt imported file which I still have on my memory card. Using the same card reader I opened the RAW in bridge directly from the memory card instead of a file from the hard drive after importing them. And the GOOD news is that the file is not corrupt when viewing straight from the memory card.

So this must mean the issue is happening when transferring from card to hard drive?

USB external drive?

Does it still happen if you copy to the laptop drive and then to the external drive?

Might be worth checking the laptop vendors support pages for bios, chipset and card reader updates. Sounds like a fault with the transfer of data. If it still happens when using the local drive first as suggested try a different USB lead first, then if you have access to one another external drive.

Hopefully one of the above should point you towards a fix.

I have had this problem a few times with Bridge but Lightroom 5 seams more prone to it. Once I have opened in a file in Lightroom and it shows the issue that file is effected whatever software I view it in from then on. If I go back to the card and open the original file in some other software like NX2 the corruption is not there.

It appears to me that the corruption is caused by the Adobe import process. The simple solution for me is to check through the files in Bridge or Lightroom to check they are all OK before formatting the cards that contain the original image.

I would be interested to hear what state the original file is in if you still have it on the card.

This has happened to me before/ I even had Jessops renew a 11 month old 5d under warranty because of this. Turned out though it was the card readers I was using.

Are you opening the raw in bridge/camera raw or just viewing in bridge?

5 quid at Amazon will prove this one way or another.
