I am very likely to get the chance of shooting a female body builder , she is black but I have shoot a number of black model so no problem there.

However I am unsure of lighting to show the muscle definition.

I am thinking one hard light about 60 to 70 deg to camera axis about 20 deg down angle the a very soft fill just off camera axis to opposite side about 1 or 2 stops down from the key light.

Hopefully someone with more expertise will be long to confirm this or put me on the right track.
Thanks in anticipation .

I personally can think of nothing less attractive than a female body builder, but if you're stuck with the job then a black subject will be much easier to photography really well:)

I think that your approach is probably about right, but that you're over-thinking it. You can't actually decide on lighting until
  1. You know exactly which pose and position the model will be in
  2. The camera is in the right place.

But the way my mind is working, my starting point would probably be something like a hard light to one side at a very acute angle, a reflector on the opposite side and possibly a very gentle fill, either on axis or directly in line with the angle of the body, which may or may not be the same thing.

Thanks Garry

1 the fact you think I am in the right general area gives me the confidence to fiddle and fart about from there.

2 I had not even thought about using a reflector but now I can see how your thinking would work
