I'd like some feedback on my web portrait portfolio. I'm just not sure if this is the best selection I could have made; there may be ones that are redundant, uninteresting, etc. I'd like to get some honest opinions, particularly when it comes to the point of getting or losing an assignment.

If you think that I am lacking some specific work, please let me know, I'll try to arrange something and add it on. I know I have prioritised landscape work for the last 2 years, so this probably shows up - time to catch up with it!

I've only clicked the link on my iPhone so I've seen the arrangement of the shots and the shots in general but not large enough to comfortably critique the shots.

As far as the arrangement goes, to be frank, you've obviously padded it out. I can see the same models/subjects cropping up every now and again. It makes it look amateur as far as my own opinion goes. Regardless of how many outfit changes you have on a shoot, only chose the very best couple from a shoot, especially if there's only one subject/model. Otherwise you're not being critical enough, when a portfolio needs quality and not quantity. A fashion editorial story is potentially different as far as people photography goes, if I was strictly a portrait photographer I'd have 1 shot of each model max.

How many would you have altogether (less?)?

Would you think that some shots don't quite standup, apart from what is said above?

I would just like to add that I really like your site, generally. You have some beautiful landscapes and the site is easy to navigate, so finding your images is easy.
As for the portraits, I do think you need to cut out a few of the "duplicates", but they are good portraits, and well displayed.
I would quite like to know whether you bought this site as a template or did you write it yourself? The reason I ask is I would eventually like a website in a similar fashion to this one.
 
Hi, firstly i will add my disclaimer in that i am an absolute novice and looking at some of them shots, particularly the landscape ones, you seem to be extremely capable. Some lovely photo's on there.

My first thought was i actually like the general feel/look, a lot of the photos look bold and colourful (enough to capture the eye anyway).

I guess it depends who/what your aiming for? There are no babies, children, parent/child on there so i would presume from that its not the market you generally aim at? (i now realise there is a school shot at the end...)

I also agree with what the others have said in that a couple of duplicates could be dropped.
 
aside from what others have said about the padding, its a bit well headshot heavy. You could do with adding some more variety to your portfolio. Start using the surroundings, buildings as frames etc eetc

I use Zenfolio to build a website and gain access to their cart, but it does cost a fair bit at then of the day.

i'm definitely no pro, but just as honest advice, I thought it looked good, but the portraits are a bit driving licence shots. Meant with no malice. I just personally like a variety of poses, but enjoy the posed or natural capture looking slightly off camera, goofy smiles or some dramatic lighting and shadows
Its a great start though, good luck
 
There is a good range of photos some that I really like, due to lighting and effects such as black and white, some I think you could get close and just have a face shot and really capture the persons facial features
 
Not directly related to the photographs themselves, but there seems to be duplication in the pricing structure too (although different prices for the same size print).

There are a few the same as below:

41.99 for a 16" x 12" Print
and then
40.99 for a 16" x 12" Print

Is this because each print is priced individually? If so, it's not particularly clear on the site.

Otherwise, pics look good and page loads quickly enough. :thumbs:

Thanks. This is the bit I am not sure about - it is from 2 different labs (one vision and photobox) so the prices are slightly different. Should I drop one, or keep uniform pricing?

Pick your best portrait of each person on there is a good start. Then take out the awkward poses. Some look uncomfortable in front of the camera. To be brutal it looks like you have not done many shoots and are pulling it together from what you have, rather than a varied portfolio.

all sorted now

price list simplified - and featured product list updated manually (instead of a rather strange automatic list)
