Faux model ship (tilt / shift / focus)

My first attempt at this technique still getting used to it. Any C & C welcome.

Many thanks,

They're all standing just like little plastic models. Even the two that are leaning look like models. There's very little in this photo to give away the fact that it's a faux tilt-shift. Excellent work!

That is a really excellent faux model ship shot- I was going to ask " Where is this model" it's so good. Well done.

Thanks both! She (the ship) is very much larger than life ! Taken from onboard HMS Ocean last August off the Libyan coast with just a little Fuji Finepix digital compact.

Yeah... I thought they were models at first!

One comment though. Shouldn't the connecting pipe/cables and mast be in focus. Should be easy to do with a selection of what areas to blur.

Might also be nice to blur a plane along the ship (i.e. put your blur along the ship) say just behind the mask and also blur the foreground at the same plane to give that true T&S look.

very nice work. i think the tilt shift stuff works better looking down onto the subject and with no sky (like you have done here) - after all, that's how you would be viewing a model village normally.

Nice work

Many Thanks for that tip i'll give it another go. I think your right. I have not tried it before. It's just one technique I wanted to try and file it in the been there, done that drawer....

They are fuel and water pipes BTW when you are at sea for long periods there is only one way to take supplies onboard. It all helps to extend our global reach.

Thank you all for your comments

I can never work out if i like tilt or shift or not but this is definately an image where it works !

Thanks Scatterpatch, it's something I have wanted to try. I think the trick is to find something you can look down on - not always an easy subject.
