Faulty shoe cord (or faulty photographer :p) ?

Yes
I bought a cheap canon ttl shoe cord off ebay to use with my 400D and 430EX.

My very first test shot worked with it fine and it all fired correctly. Five shots or so later it stopped working properly and fires the flash fractionally too soon, resulting in a completely dark image.

I've tried cleaning the contacts, reconnecting, etc several times and so far nothing has worked. I've even read the manual () for the 430EX in case I'd done something stupid but I can't see anything wrong.

Connected directly to the camera hotshoe the flash works as expected so it's just the cable causing a problem.

Anyone any ideas? If it makes a difference it's a Nicana AIS-06 off-camera cord (which incidently is a different make to the one pictured in the ebay auction).

I've waiting for the ebay seller to get back in touch with me and in the mean time I've ordered a new cable from Flash In The Pan along with a few other things so hopefully that resolves it.

Cheers

I would probably say it was dodgy cord....
Not always best to buy cheap....

Flash should sort you out...

The Nicna cord is sold as a "universal" TTL one :suspect: rather than being a proper dediated one and according to the manufacturer will work with all of the following cameras......

Canon E-TTL,E-TTLII hot shoe cameras
Nikon i-TTL hot shoe cameras
Pentax P-TTL hot shoe cameras
Olympus O-TTL hot shoe cameras
Fujifilm TTL SLR cameras
Samsung TTL SLR cameras
Panasonic TTL SLR cameras
Sigma TTL cameras
Leica TTL cameras
