Evening all.

It seems i have got myself in a bit of a pickle, previous memory card reader has destroyed my CF card, but i still have data on there that i want to transfer too another memory card. I have stripped the memory card down leaving just the internal chips, the pins have broke off. At the same time it seems it has also damaged the pins on my Canon which is now not able to read any cards. I've tried a few local tech shops with no luck. The Real Camera Company didnt give me much hope either. I'd rather find a place close to home that i go walk in and speak to someone but as a last resort i wouldnt mind sending the camera away and memory card.

Any contacts/info would be brilliant, thanks.

If this is the 350D, I fear the repairs will be bordering on being uneconomic unless the camera is special to you or someone can give you a special 'friend or relation' rate.
I would be looking at an upgrade of some kind.

As 4WD says, if you've bent the pins in your 350D's card slot then it will be uneconomical to repair it.
You can get a good used 40D for around the £200 mark now and it's a massive step up from a 350D. ;)

It's very unlikely you'll ever get the data off that card either unfortunately, it sounds like it would be a very fiddly job to try and solder anything to it to allow it to be read.
How did your card reader destroy the card?
Normally I'd expect the pins in the card reader to be broken, not the card itself or is that what you mean?

The reader was quite a cheap one off Amazon, very fragile, it first started with aligning the card into it, over time the pins on the reader damaged the female insert on the memory card causing two pins going into one port. After fiddling with it myself and getting it to connect, a slight movement would disturb it before giving me enough time to open the files and transfer them on the desktop. The camera could be replaced at a later date but i hope i can salvage the data off the card.

Quick update, after stripping down the camera and trying to repair the reader, it looks like it's had it. The main priority was the memory card, which looks like this...

What can be done and who can do it? Thanks.

I'd be tempted to acquire another cheap CF card and try transplanting the innards you've got there into it.

If that didn't work, my next step would be to buy a cheap card reader, and solder the connections to the card innards. Definitely doable if you're handy that way.

IMHO, not worth the cost that any of the recovery companies would charge you unless it's something seriously special.

I honestly can't see how you've managed to break the card though :P

Thanks for the replies and link, I'll give the soldering a try.
