Hey everyone you may remember my back to basics post about a week ago. Well i bought a canon eos 350d rebel for £239.00 off ebay. The guy who sold it has over 700 positive feedback so i know he's a nice guy. The camera itself is basically untouched. The only problem is in 'idiot mode' and 'portriat' if you take a picture the flash shoots up followed by a morse code of taps, the picture doesnt take and the battery says empty. However, if i turn the camera off and back on i can shoot pictures on a different mode, say macro, the picture comes out fine and the battery life is magically restored. I have emailed the guy who is more than happy to take it back and refund me the money, however i know i could use the camera without these modes and the camera itself is lovely so do i send it back and get a full refund pay out some extra money and get a new one? keep it and pay out for a repair? :bang:help????? xx

so its really not supposed to do that? am i just doing something wrong? where have you seen them for this price? cheers xx

Well you don't really need those 'idiot' modes at all, they're a huge bar to you progressing when you rely on them. Having said that, I agree with marky-h, send it back while you still can, something obviously isn't right and who knows where the next problems will develop.

No it's not supposed to do that (although the flash is ment to pop up and strobe to focus on the subject).

I dunno about that battery thing, wierd, try using the flash on other modes like P and M and see if it does the same thing.

Hi elektro13,

Not trying to be a salesperson here but if you decide to get your refund and buy another, Mine's available.

The reason I am selling it is because I am upgrading to a 40D hence this baby gotta go

Immaculate lovely black body with beautiful kit lens and a 2GB CF card to get started straight away.

Perfect starter for Digital newbies or those wanting a spare travel sized digital SLR camera.

Comes with original box with all the bells and whistles which came along.

£285 incl.

In the 'idiot' modes, the flash is supposed to shoot up if it detects that light levels are below hand holding speeds. However you say the flash isn't firing?

CT - The flash does shoot up but when it does you cant take a picture and it doesnt flas to take the picture, the battery says its dead and wont work until i turn it off and on again. If i use the flash in a different mode it works fine. Mystery huh? xx

It doesn't sound right at all. The circuit boards in modern cameras are mega complicated, it probably needs a board replacing, and the whole thing could die on you. I know it's a pain but send it back - parcel it up today. ;)

I really hoped i was just doing something wrong :( I will package it up and send it on its little way then. Thank you everyone for your help and support, thanks CT. I will be browsing the For Sale thread for a new one, i might buy chouglez's even xx

I look forward to it elektro13 in case you decide.

Well if you buy off the board here, you should be pretty safe, and if anyone sells you a duff one we all gang up and give 'em a kickin'

Hahaha to be honest CT (and no offence chouglez! :D) this was my worry. At least with ebay you have certain regulations :rules: and feedback and ebay's team to fall back on if you are duped. So buying stuff on here is pretty safe then? xx

Well we don't allow to people to sell stuff on here till they've made at least 100 posts, and they're pretty well known to everyone. Everyone here - that's members and staff, are pretty watchful for anyone trying it on in the 'Classified' section.

We've had no issues with people selling duff stuff at all, and I don't think for a moment any of our members would try to rip you off, but if they did they'd come under some pretty intense peer pressure from the members! ;)

I'd have no qualms in buying off a member here in fact I have done a few times with no problems at all.

None taken elektro13. :)

That's why this is TPF and not eBay.

Very soon U will be part of our big and lovely family with many many posts to your credit.

I feel happier now, i guess it can be better buying more intimately on these websites as its a little community and everyone knows whos who. Im off for a browse then and probably to talk more to chouglez!! x

Don't rely on Ebay's team to fall back on, they are notoriously apathetic when dealing with buyers who have a complaint. You'd be well advised to buy from one of the members here if you can find what you want at the price you want to pay.

I agree to be honest. I just always 'assumed' places like ebay would be safer as its quite a commercial site, i understand though that to them the odd complaint is a minority and could easily be swept under the rug or left as its not a priority to them whilst they are making notes xx

elektro13, last year eBay bought Skype for a measly sum of 2.8 Billion

Its gone back now, i hope he refunds my money soon so i can get buying again! xx

fingers crossed in finding a new one
