Is it okay to point and laugh?

Seriously I'm seeing a lot of them complete with white trainers and trainer socks. Do they not own a mirror?
 
We are too pass remarkable in this country. Who cares what they (we) wear. I find in other countries they don't care as much what people wear, and why should they. Leave us middle aged (old) people alone.;)

Indeed, it is an obsession, too many fashion police. Although, socks and sandals? :gag: Should be a minimum fine and 2 days in the stocks! :rules::bat:

If it's a no no to be middle aged and wear long shorts, can I just clarify what I'm supposed to wear instead? - Assuming that budgie smugglers are the sole reserve of the school swimming team, and short nylon shorts (like what we had to wear in the 80's) are equally as humourous I suspect that once we hit 40 in both age and waistline we should just stay indoors to avoid any difficult wardrobe decisions..
 
Wear your long shorts with pride middle aged man! Just team them with stylish flip flops or sandals. Not, I emphasise, not, white socks and trainers/sandals. :lol:
 
Last week in Kefalonia we were laughing at mostly English tourists, but some Dutch, who had white socks and trainers on, have they never heard of trainer socks, that dont show above the shoe line, I only wear sandals abroad anyway

That is so wrong, that is on par with wearing sandals and socks if not worse. Male gender should cease wearing sandals or flip flops at around 8 yrs old and never wear them again. Sandals barely become acceptable when even way past a pensionable age.
 
I've got a lovely pait of Birkenstock Sandals that have just (after a year) moulded themselves to the shape of my feet ! - Not even sure they'd fit with socks on !! I wear them all the time now (along with my below the knee shorts - or longs with plenty of pockets). If it's a bit chilly (like this morning) I sometimes even wear a t-shirt with a logo on !

I am however looking forward to that special birthday where I suddenly get granted access to those shops that sell the pale blue polyester trousers with the waist up to your moobs so I can shuffle to the shops in those, white socks and a pair of blue canvas deck shoes and a brown cardigan.

White socks and trainers are perfectly acceptable depending on the length of the shorts and whether they are pulled up or not. I wear socks with my trainers and shorts mainly to hide a huge patch of psoriosis on my leg, but then the socks aren't pulled up. We had a bloke at work who wore knee length shorts but with ankle socks that were stretched up as high as he could get them.
Biggest no, no is wearing trainers with normal socks.:nono:

I just don't understand shorts that finish between the knee and full length. Some women can barely get away with that too.

:lol: :lol: Nilagin, there are some stylish flip flops for chaps. River island do some as do Ted Baker. As for sandals, this is a sensitive area. Fine line between style and er....epic fail :lol:

I really feel sorry for these sad people who have a serious inferiority complex about what clothes they should wear because some so called fashion guru tells them what to wear.

If a person middle aged or whatever age is comfortable wearing something then so what! Sandals in summer I suppose are a bit more hygenic than smelly trainers with sweaty feet, ankle socks or not.

Just as well we all don't laugh at non-pro togs who have top of the range cameras but use second rate lenses with them, perhaps we could make a thread for that too.

Live and let live I say.

"Men" just don't wear flip flops. They are just wrong on all levels. :nono::gag:
There is absolutely nothing stylish about them. They are right up there with men wearing Ugg boots.
 
Apart from the odd exception, all of Europe seems to have more dress sense and style than every age group in the UK. Very rare you see an oik of an Italian, French or German around the holiday towns.
p.s. my holiday day wear consists of string vest, knotted hankie, lobster pot sandals with flourescent socks and a donkey jacket if it's parky out. (just so I don't stand out from fellow brits abroad) :D
 
3/4 'action' shorts and white trainers do kind of bug me. The more pockets and dangly elastic things seem to be the aim.

Am I the only one who cuts the danglies off? - and having tried both they tend to look slightly better with trainers than they do work boots lol

Wore my sandals on hols last year with no socks. Ow, ow ow! Seriously sunburnt feet:cuckoo:
 
When it comes to most middle-aged people...they shouldn't be allowed to wear any kind of revealing clothing at all...:schtum: Like all matters of clothing, the Italians do middle-age dress-sense best (they don't try to pretend they are teenagers like the British do) and the Americans get it wrong the most (Hawaiian shirts and board shorts. Say no more)

I'm middle-aged (but not fat) and my legs are kept safely completely concealed at all times on the grounds of public decency! :nuts: ... and to prevent any blown-out white highlights in any photographs, of course!

I have worn Sandals virtually every day of my life.
Most of the time I wear socks. I am in my mid 70's.
Fashions come and go, and that applies to socks and sandals as well.

Technically I am over weight, but not in the least Fat.
Recently For the first time in my life, I have had to chuck out three pairs of newish expensive trousers, because they had all shrunk by 3 inches on the inside leg measurement, and were flying at half mast.

Perhaps some of these fat gentlemen can not see their feet, and have no idea that their modern made trousers have shrunk.
 
Only wear sandals or flip shots with shorts and look really trendy like some of the idiots we have seen walking up Snowdon, Cadair Idris etc. Wear your hiking boots or approach shoes and look like a man.:bang:

It does not pay to be a fashion freak if you want to be comfortable.

I will even wear socks and sandals in winter or the rain, as the Romans did.
feet get wet, yes, but they dry just as quickly.

There is nothing worse than wet boots and shoes.

I have been to many winter rugby matches where people have complaind about cold feet. But it is not a problem with my socks and sandals.

Hill walking like that is easy enough in hiking sandals made for the Job. And Shorts in summer are not a problem, if you carry proper kit for bad weather.

Of course some routes are better attempted in proper boots, mine just last longer than most peoples ( 30 years+ and still supple and water proof)

I grew up in the peak district and back in the 80s/90s pretty much the only thing we had to do there was torturing yuppy hikers.

Them= full gear, 80s dayglo waterproofs, heavy backpacks, £500 walking boots and those huge brick mobile phones you wouldn't have a chance in hell of getting a signal on. For some reason the men would generally be seen comparing huge knives, don't know what it was about yuppies and huge knives, perhaps it was to impress those women with huge/very very short rock hard hair you occasionally saw with them.

Us = Increasingly ridiculous and inappropriate clothing.

So if you were climbing stanage edge in the late 80s and saw several local kids scamper past you in dress suits/bridesmaids dresses with high heels while givng the V sign then that was us and you looked far stupider than we did.

I photograph rugby and I can tell you even wearing proper socks and boots I and many others cannot get their feet warm.

So can you tell us the secret of keeping your feet warm by wearing socks and sandals in the middle of winter with howling winds and munus temperatures.

Now comes the problem, if my boots are full up with these then how do I get my feet in my boots?.:shrug:

I agree Terry - nothing wrong with shorts, nothing wrong with hiking sandals in the right conditions. Mountain walking - over 1000m I think boots are far more sensible. I've never really fancied a trip in the helicopter when I've twisted my ankle or broken my toe. A few years ago I twisted my ankle badly and went abroad on my holidays; I couldn't get my boots on so only wore my Teva's. Believe me it wasn't a good option when I had to cross a snake infested olive grove in them.:gag:
 
How about people with silly moo's and apples in their mouths. Their worth a good laugh:D
