Like really fast lenses. Any idea how much any of these go for, and where one would look to pick one up?

Repro-Nikkor 85 mm f1.0
Mt. Prospect 90mm f1.0
Rodenstock XR-Heliogon 68mm f1.0
Nikon 35mm f0.9
Kowa 62mm f0.75
Rodenstock TV-Heliogon 42mm f0.75

Or any similar? Not looking to buy at the moment, but im just curious.

It would probably take you a life time to find one, and a life time to pay one off. Settle for f/1.2 + f/1.4 :)

how low an f stop will your camera go??? i thought f1 was the lowest

Ive already got a 30mm f1.4, but im just curious as to how fast you can go. Having a look around, it seems if you know what your after, then bargains can be had. One guy picked up a Repro-Nikkor 85 mm f1.0 for $250 . I might start having a look around car boot sales if that sort of price is possible.

The f stop doesn't have anything to do with the camera. Its all down to the lens. The f number is the focal length divided by the aperture diameter. Therefore anything is in theory possible, but it becomes increasingle harder to control chromatic abberations the further you go.

Unless your a collector, i don't really see the point of waiting years to find a lens that is completely manual and costs more than an average car (unless you get lucky). Especially when you can pick up the fully auto 85mm f/1.4 for £500.

Im not saying they aren't good, but is it really worth it?

Ive already got a 300mm f1.4

300 f1.4!!!!!! did'nt know there was such a beast :suspect:

I thought a 300mm f/2.8 was big enough. A 1.4 must be a foot wide. Or of course a typo.

blinkin nora!!

must admit i thought f/1 was the limit - that 65mm opens up to 83mm???? Thats gonna be one fat heavy lens!!!!!!!

The reson I would be interested in one of these is for the absolute tiny dof, giving some very creative effects. The only other way that I know of to achieve such an effect (as far as I know) would be to use a large format camera, which would cost significantly more.

Yup it was a typo. I meant 30mm f1.8 My 300mm is 2.8.

I suspect that you get very close to the miniscule DOF by using a f/1.2 and a short tube to keep the infinity focus at a useable distance.

What about a tilt/shift lens, can't recreate the movements of L/F, but creatively they're stacked..
