Glass is an interesting subject to photograph and particularly crystal with all the different facets producing lighting diffraction (or is it re-fraction) to challenge and frustrate. It is made especially difficult if you do not have all the paraphernalia of softboxes and lights to help. I'm trying to do precisely that by necessity. Here's one of my recent attempts - would be nice to see others who are trying or even succeeded.

I love playing about including Glassware into my still life studies, mainly so I can use the reflections etc. to add additional details - so its not necessarily about photographing the actual glassware (be it the antique etched glass Roemer, or even the hourglass that occasionaly crops up in my shot), but more about showing the "play of light" and hidden reflections... I've even been known to photoshop in occasional details just to "play" with the Old Master Vanitas type inspired things...

A couple of "straight" ones...

and one that should have the "easter egg" - it's a little difficult to see at forum resolution - but if I remember correctly, there's the Ghost of Rembrandt in the hourglass... (might have been "killed by flickr's compression algorithms")

Those are fabulous Mark. Love the props. #2 is my fave with that olde feel but with a vibrancy provided by the fruit. I got given a Swarovski ornament - it's multi-faceted surface catches the light and casts reflections so well that it has me mesmerised photographically.

Aw that is an awful shame - such a character piece. That is another great image - composition is faultless. Like the skull ... but not sure the wife would entertain having one in the house.
