With SWMBO now getting an iPad (3rd gen retina ios 7.01) it makes sense to be able to share some of my paid for downloaded apps.
What is the best/easiest way to do this without her getting my iMessages, sharing contacts etc?

Use one Apple account on both :)

You can also set it up so that if you download an app it does not automatically download to another device. We have three iPads (!) what I download auto downloads to my wife's (to various comments of what's this new app!), but not daughters

Not sure how you can do this without the bolded part, if you use the same Apple account. Unless you disable imessages notifications perhaps?

If you use google to sync contacts and use gmail, then you can manage that side of things by using separate google accounts.

itunes is not linked to imessage. On 1 ipad and phone we have my wifes phone number and email and my email and number on the other 2

Thanks, I guess I can just disable contacts etc on her iPad?
How do I go about getting her setup on my iTunes account ... IIRC just connecting a new iPad to iTunes it will want to start anew?

You link contacts to her email address not yours.

Although you use the same ID for your email and iTunes, they can be seperated on iOS.

Use your ID for app store and music sharing etc. then hers for her email, contacts, imessage etc.

Think I get it ... we'll see how it goes :)
