Yes
Had a bit of bad luck, with a lucky side.
A large tree just outside my property fell in the storm Friday night.
It took my Broadband cable with it, so I have been off line till yester day afternoon.
Amazingly it fell parallel to my fence rather than flattening my garage workshop, which would have been a disaster.

The tree is still down. and blocks the ally way to the local electricity sub station, and foot path to a block of sheltered housing. I have reported it to the local council.
I reported my Broadband outage to TalkTalk, my service provider, Saturday morning, and Openreach came out Monday morning to replace the cable. took him till 3PM to sort it, he replaced my indoor connection while he was at it. so all back to normal.

It took out a couple of other people's wires at the same time but it seems they have not reported it yet to their service suppliers. But it will still be Openreach who do the actual work.

As you say bad luck but good luck that it fell where it did.
We had a tree outside our house between us and our neighbour and it had a definite lean towards his house. He used to check it and phone the council when he was worried. They just said that it was OK. Three years ago at Christmas I asked if he had checked it lately as it was leaning more towards his house and the pavement was lifting. He contacted the council and they removed it. They then planted a new tree and after 3 years that one is also leaning towards his house, he reckons that I am creeping out each night to give it a push :D

Unfortunate that it fell, but like you say really lucky. Even flattening the fence would have been far worse and there's even a chance it could have hit a parked car. So yeah, day or so off line is a small price to pay :)

We have a local insurance company. Back when working in an office was a thing, there was a big storm the blew down a tree in their carp park. It took out 3 cars - they would all be written off. I never found out which insurer footed the bill......

I only notified them yesterday. but they have now chopped it up and taken away the chippings, but will come back later to remove the trunk sections and grind out the stump.

Insurance companies are fishy plaices.
:P

Lots of people in Insurance companies are working in the wrong plaice and just flounder about

According to BT I have access to an inter net which I think is a device that you put outside your house to stop things falling on the rooter.

I thought that was Sky-net?

:D

This morning there were only three of the larger bits of timber left?

I am sure no one would half inch them. it must have been the fairies.

Imperial thieves, obviously!

Free logs will tend to vanish fast.

On the other hand maybe he doesn't understand cockney rhyming slang :)

Heather is right,of course.

I've never considered 'half-inch' to be Cockney slang. I've been familiar with it since a kid growing up in the north ..North West to be precise but I see it is .

Half-inch..to pinch.

I expect you know this but I see it was a clever idea back in the 19th century when police..Peelers..were set up and miscreants could freely speak infront of them without them understanding what was being said. Apparantly started by East Enders because that's where the first police station was in Bow street.

Glad to contribute the forums opportunity for education

"Berk" is also rhyming slang. Something to do with those who chase foxes...

Berkley hunt= C...
You often hear people calling others Berks, now you know what it means.
However Berk has taken on a derogatory meaning of its own, and the original is largely unknown by the users.
