I would go so far as to suggest spending similar money on an old Sigma 400 F5.6 APO and cropping will probably get you a better result...

I would stay away, there are better ways how to spend money - as mentioned before, some used lenses are better

I would not even think about it ... Tried shorter ones and were average. At that length I can imagine what the image quality would be like.
