Hi

Not knowing anything at all about zooms, can anyone tell me if this is a decent lens. I have a relative who has it for sale and have been offered it first. Would it be suitable for wildlife and for a used lens what would be an approx value. I have tried googling for a price/info but unsuccessfully

Thanks

It's not a zoom for one. Second its probably a mirror lens, which isn't always bad, but they aren't great. You won't have autofocus also.

Not ideal for wildlife no.

Well given he's shooting a 400d I'm not sure there'll be much else in that sort of range with the same sort of reach. It might be worth having if you can get it cheap but otherwise I'd just make do with a decent reliable 70-300

Sigma 50-500
Sigma 120-400
Canon 100-400

There are plenty of choices much more suitable that are designed to work fully with the camera.
