Hi all,
I wanted to buy a few SD cards from ebay but knowing it to be rife with counterfeits, decided to buy use - My theory was that I might find a fellow photographer who was having a de-clutter and thus in for a better chance at the card being genuine. Anyway, I found the card pictured below for £7.99 so thought I'd give it go.
I thought the markings on the reverse and the feel of the plastic felt a little 'generic'. I wasn't convinced. I use Macs and can't seem to find any SD card testing software to verify the class so decided to give Sony a call to ask if they were able to tell if I had a kosher card or not. So, according to the Sony guy, ALL serial numbers on their SD cards are 7 digits long; no more, no less. Mine has 8.
Anyway, I appreciate the take-home message for me will be 'buy from a reputable shop, Sam' but I thought I'd share the above information anyway... Sony SD Cards: 7 digits good, 8 digits bad.
