Yes
I've been contemplating a good a Nikon SLR for a while now mainly because my FE2 is old and I'm scared of loosing it/breaking it (dads old kit)

I've got a large amount on Nikon kit which won't really be compatible with cheaper DSLRS. F5s going for £350-400 seem great for film work.

I'm guessing that using AI lenses with manual focus and aperture selection isn't a problem?

How good is the AF on it? I've got a 300mm F4 to go with that as well

Generally I personally wouldn't spend a lot on a film body. Make sure it's:
A) easy to use
B) got plenty of features
C) robust.
(optional) D) If necessary a decent AF system

I got my Canon EOS 1000FN for £45 w/ lens.
Just make sure you put a decent lens on the camera and a decent roll of film in there. If you save money on the body you can spend more on film.

If I was a Nikon user and looking for a film camera I'd be going for an F5 - one of the most advanced pro film cameras ever made, and a bargain if if you can pick up a nice one for 3 or 4 hundred quid. It should be compatible with all your Nikon AF lenses as well as taking pretty well any of the older non AF lenses. Nikon were very fortunate when they had to change to AF lenses that their existing mount was able to accommodate the necessary electrical connections - hence the backward compatibility with older lenses.

The F5 is brilliant - I still have mine - the AF is OK, but not quite up to par with the new DSLR/lens combinations from Nikon - good enough though....sturdy as anything...metering is fine - and since you have tons of latitude with fillum, it'll more than do...

How can £400 be a concern? Spend that on film in a couple of months if you try hard...

In my experience it's often better to spend a little more than you can comfortably afford as choosing the lesser option always makes you think...."if only I had bought the better one - who needs food after all...?"

Sage advice ^^^^^^

from the man who spent years eating beans on toast so he could afford decent glass IIRC.

Hope lifes treating you well Rob?

ever so good, thanks...forgot about the 800px file-size limit though...lol
I might get 'modded' shortly...

So there should be no problems then all good :)

I'm getting into film pretty seriously as well. Ive got a canon 50E which I love cos of its size. Its got all the features I want as well. Shame all my prime lenses are Nikon
