I'm looking at organising a F&C meet up following this one in 2024:
https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/f-c-meet-up-18th-may-2024.752516/

I think we'd be looking at the same sort of area that's easily reachable from the Midlands, Cheshire/Lancs, Yorkshire(s) etc.

Those already expressing an interest from the 2024 thread:
@ChrisR
@Harlequin565
@FishyFish
@sirch
@Barney
Those expressing an interest in this thread:
@srichards - possible
@Boots
@moggi1964
@stevelmx5

If anyone else is interested mention in the thread or via PM and I'll add you to the list above

(A few people in the 2024 thread mentioned they would like a meet up elsewhere in the country including from:
@excalibur2 post added as next post

If you would like to organise a meet up that's more convenient for you then I'd encourage you to set one up.)

So pleased send in your suggestions for this meet up regarding:
1) Location
2) Dates

I thought late spring worked well in 2024 and so did the Peak District. Of course a repeat of Castleton would seem silly. @sirch mentioned an event such as a Steam Fair had gone well in the past. Let us know what you think.

Edits of 22/01/25 completed.

I'd be up for another Astle Park meetup. It was fun last time. Paging @Andysnap and @simon ess in case they're interested.

Is it the Country Fair 31st May - 1st June or the early August Steam Rally you are referring to?

It's the 9/10th August one I'm referring to, but there are a few things on there that pique my interest.

I'm easy either way. I'm sure there's more to the Peak District than just Castleton. I just don't know what it is.

The spirit is willing!

Of course, I have said that I'm interested before, and not made it. But I'll try harder this year.

I'd happily attend Astle Park but the date is in the school holidays so that could possibly rule me out. Would still be happy to lead on the organisation if that's what most folk prefer.

As for the Peak District I would perhaps settle for Youlgreave. It's a large village with 3 pubs (one of which open and closes more than our back door) a couple of cafes and other shops.

Architecturally it's got a well preserved fronted early 19th century Co-operative store (now a YHA), the prominent water tower of the early 1800's subscription water system (local streams being poisoned by lead mining) obligatory old church with ramshackle graveyard plus old buildings that range from the wealthy small halls/manor houses to lead miners/workers cottages.

Countryside wise you are never more than a couple of hundred yards from the typical small fields bounded by dry stone walls. There is a nice walk that drops down from the top of village into Bradford Dale which at the top is a narrow valley whose river is full of trout and the ponds are still actively managed by the owning estate. There is evidence of small lead mines in this section with the remains of small water mills. The dale broadens out after a mile or so to wider pasture, clips the edge of the village and goes onto a v small picturesque village. The River Bradford then joins the River Monsal. Monsal Dale is gorgeous itself but would require a full day to enjoy.

Youlgreave (also spelt Youlgrave) is at the southern edge of the Peaks - area known as the White Peaks - 3 or 4 miles south from Bakewell. It's slightly further than Castleton coming from Lancs/Cheshire but from the East Mids/Sheffield is about the same distance. The village gets a little busy though there are a couple of honesty box car parks plus on street parking is usually available.

There is no camping in the village but a couple of sites at Monyash 3 miles away. One of the village pubs does B&B (I stayed in it about 8 years and it was fine). The open-closed pub did do accommodation. The other pub is v old fashioned and unmodernised and the menu is on a massive laminated sheet. Left field offerings included rabbit pie and mushy peas as a side order - unsurprisingly I liked it.

Let me know what you think or of any other suitable places in the Peaks or beyond.

I'm much more interested in this kind of thing than events like Astle Park. No cliffs for me to dash up, or hillsides for @FishyFish to cartwheel down! ;)

Is there a date for this meet up yet?

Is there a date for this meet up yet?
Not yet. Provisionally looking at spring. The 2024 meet-up was mid May so I was going to suggest similar for this year.

I'll look at the calendar in the next day or 2 and choose a possible Saturday then see if it's agreeable to attendees.

Could you choose a couple and put up a poll?

If the dates work around being at home with the kids (my wife is a nurse so often works weekends) I’d love to come along. It’s been a few years since I’ve got along to an F&C meet.

Edit - I didn’t realise 2016 was the last Peaks meet I’d got to!

Lovely. Added to post 1 as an interested.

I can't make the 17/18 May as I'm already going somewhere.

Hi,
Not being pedantic here but is the vote for 2025 or 2024 dates,

I have voted but not sure if it is for last year

Well spotted. It is for 2025. I've had a quick look at changing the 4 to a 5 but doesn't look easy so will it alone. Thanks for voting.

I am interested but have no date preference at the moment, so I didn't vote. Now I have, to re-state my interest, but it's not going to help choose!

Did a location for this one ever get decided? Not sure if I can make it yet, but would be interested for sure

With the highest number of votes at 9 the date will be Saturday 10th May 2025. Thanks for the votes.
Sorry for not coming back to this thread. Unfortunately I won't be able to make this one because I've got a table at the Photographica Show in London the weekend after (19th) so I need to use all of the time I've got before then to build up some stock! Have fun though.

Time has also caught up with me and I won't be able to attend I'm afraid. Sorry :(

Apologies from me too, I've now got a family commitment next Saturday

Well we've had a fair few drop out. Are we looking at a cancel and reschedule or moving it on to next year?

May 25th now cancelled. Possible re-schedule for late summer.

PS could an Admin delete the poll please. I can't see how to do that. Thank you :)
