Yes
My eyes have gone odd :'(
I still wanna tog, but the monitor is too bright , how do I get decent prints for the family and mates without frying my eyes .
I was thinking about film and selling the dslr gear.
btw my tear glands are up the spout :| its ok but its a pain to look at a screen.
cheers
:)

Turn the brightness down, as long as you make adjustments in photoshop by the numbers ( levels, contrast, colour) it will not make any difference to how your prints look. :)

Thanks Paul, but you cannot beat your own judgment , which i cannot do now.
I love taking pics , but i think i may have to rethink and get some film gear. :)

It looks as though the brightness of the screen is too bright for the environment it's in.

You have a couple of options.

You could get a monitor calibrator to sort the screen out. Modern LCD screens can be blindingly bright. Mine uncalibrated is horrendous. The measured brightness is over 400Cd/m2. That probably means nothing to most people but the recommended range is between 110-140Cd/m2 .

Next option is increase the lighting in the area you are working in. That will make your eyes become less sensitive to the screen brightness.

I suspect though the answer is somewhere between the 2.

In your position I would look at the prints I am getting and ask "do they match the monitor" ? To bright a monitor will cause the prints to come off darker than you want.

I would seriously consider turning the brightness down. This will in fact help you judge the prints better and get the results you want. If you don't have a monitor calibrator, simply use the brightness control to get it down to a comfortable level. Once you've got the density about right you can then concentrate on getting the colour correct.
