Morning everyone

Am looking at buying a Hydrophobia thinktank and my only question is does the eyepiece replace the one that on there or does it replace it. Just want to make sure as my camera did not come with a eyepiece so do not want to waste money on something I possibly do not need.

Many thanks

Dex

What camera do you have? The thinktank eye piece for the d7100 type cameras replaces it completely, whilst the round eye piece for the D800 is unscrewed from the camera to allow the thinktank eye piece to be screwed, then you can screw the d800 original eye piece into the thinktank eye piece. I think the round viewfinders on nikon fx cameras are the only ones that do this otherwise it looks like it's a straight replacement.

The great thing about the thinktank eye piece is it gives that extra bit of distance to the camera body and stops me touching the D pad control with my head whilst using the camera in portrait, otherwise I'm constantly scrolling the AF point across the viewfinder!

It replaces the eyepiece with one that is much, much better.

I completely agree with you now Ive put it on there.

I have a canon, the two videos I watched where both off Nikon cameras where hes screwed them on. Slightly annoying I purchased the canon one when I didnt need to but ah well.

Another question for anyone but is the eyepiece meant to pop through the hole then the flap go over the top?
From what I can see its easy for the Nikon equivelent to do this but the Canon is rectangle and I don't really want to break it straight away by forcing it through.

The rectangular viewfinder does go through the circular hole fine, it did on my d7100 which was rectangular and clipped on. The grey rubber/foam acts as a gasket seal to against water ingress. If you don't have the viewfinder through the gasket then water could be let through. The clear flap can be used as protection for the viewfinder when you are not using the camera. The flap is not really there to look through.
