External HD Issues

Hi, has anyone had any issues trying to run 2 external usb hard drives at the same time? My win 7 32 bit laptop will only see one of the 2TB Western Digital USB drives at once, which is a pain as i need to transfer files from one to the other. Any ideas?

shouldnt be a problem, do both show up in disk management?
are they mains powered?
try a combination of different USB ports.

Sounds like a USB powering issue to me.

Hi they are both mains powered, and i have tried them between all the usb ports. Disk Manager does see them both at once, but only one appears im My Computer. Any suggestions?

if its in disk management then does it have a drive letter and can you assign it a drive letter to make it show up?

It's not actually showig 2 external drives in disc manager, but does show 2 connected in device manager, it seems to show which ever drive it finds first regardless of which port they are plugged into. In device manager, under USB controllers the 2 drives are listed as having different port number but the same host number, does that matter?

doesnt matter the laptop probably only has 1 usb controller (host)

Spot on Joe, thanks for the link, the second disc was conflicting with the first, so Win 7 classes it as offline. Sorted now, thanks everyone for your advice.
