hey i was wondering what cable i needed if i wanted to use my canon speedlite flash as an external flashguninstead of being attached to the top of the camera.

basically i want to sit it on the floor and point the bulb upwards slightly then as i as take my photo with my camera (ill obviously be down on the ground with my cam) the speedlite flashes when i click the snap button.

so i can illuminate the object im snapping from beneath it while still getting a shot from any angle i require.

any help will be greatly appreciated.

hey lost fan,
i use a wireless set up for this type of thing, YONGNUO 301 are very reliable and cheep off ebay and your not limited to one flash as you can buy more that one receiver(between £20-£40),This also give you more versatility without the wires in your way. Hope this helps

hey nice to see a fellow lost fan on these forums.

i just had a look at the product you described.

so does one part attached to your camera somehow and the other to your flashgun? and then as u snap the wireless transmitter sends a signal to the flash and it goes off?

how do they attach to the camera and speedlite

the sender fits directly to your hot shoe(you can buy a standard fit or one specific to you camera) and the receiver has a hot shoe fitting that the flash fits into.
i have a Sony camera so i bought a standard hot shoe fit and use a Minolta adapter for the sender,so if i upgrade or use a different camera i can still use the wireless system with a standard hot shoe.

That's the cheapest way to do it, but you won't get E-TTL exposure control. You need either a (long) dedicated cable for that, or a wireless master control flash unit (minimum £160 I think for an ST-E2).

Radio triggers work great but manual exposure control only, which isn't too much hassle with digital and a bit of trial and error.

A lot of people are using the Yongnuo RF-602 transmitter/receiver sets - £28 from Flash In The Pan here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807

(Flippin eck, I should be on commission for this, that's the third time today I've posted that link  Hope it's helpful ;) )
