I want to have a go at a few macro shots but don't actually have enough money for a macro lens. I was wondering about using some extension tubes to do sort of the same job. Any suggestions if they would be the right thing to get (with my cam and lenses in sig) and suggestions on what ones to get?

Thanks:)

It is easier to point you at some old threads...

There are more (I searched for tubes).

There are 2 types of tubes - empty metal tubes with no electrical contacts, and ones with contacts so the AF works on the lens and you can view at max aperture (much more expensive). As you only use manual focus for macro I'd get some cheap empty tubes off ebay to play with. You can test the effect without buying anything if you read the above threads.

hi there if you do go down that road give me a pm if you want ive got the jessops ones for sale .. only used once still in the box they sell them for 74 pound plus postage yours delivered for 50 quid
just a thought:shrug:

I agree with with Robert.

Get a cheap set of none AF tubes if your planning on just using them for macro work.
If you want them for long telephoto work you'll need the auto extension tubes.

More threads on search word 'extension'.

Bear in mind the tubes without the electrical connection also prevent metering and the lens stopping down.

Not if you read the threads I posted. There is a workaround for stopping down.

Why would there be a metering problem? thought that was only Nikons that had a problem.

Actually, metering will work... It's Sunday morning but my brain is refusing to get up ;)

I forgot the search button...:shake: :bonk:

Thanks for the replies guys, i'll have a look through the threads posted here and have a look at what to get.:)

Just reading those threads what about this or something similar? Is a macro filter likely to be better?

Would just any cheap tube fom ebay be ok?

Thanks
