Guys I have said lens had it for a while love it. one of its drawbacks is min focus distance.......3.3 M. canons ef25ii is going to pull that back to around 2.3 M if my research is correct.

So for ages I've wondered on extensions tubes not extenders !!

Can I use 2 extensions tubes and stack them.will this degrade IQ

can I use an extension tube and say a 1.4 ext iii?

I shoot almost exclusively wildlife with all most every outing using this one lens...there are times say butterflies herps , where I would love to get closer than the DO ii, physically allows me.

Thoughts please many thanks in advance

take care

Stu, there shouldn't be any negative IQ as they are just hollow tubes, and yes, you can still use a converter with them

The only drawback is you lose focussing distance further away, but if you're set up to go really close then that's pretty much a non issue for you.

There will be some theorists that will talk about minor IQ loss due to the travelling distance of the light and potential misalignment, but in the real world I don't think you're going to notice anything

Lol I've said sod it and an ef25ii is in its way :)

Mike can I stack 2 tubes ( canon ef) . I'm obviously going to explore the new purchase see if that get's me where I want but am curious.

Buddy, yes exactly non issue on long distance focusing not what I'm looking for ....... You know me Mike .I bumble into things and suddenly I'm too close having to back away not make images is horrible . tis especially the little things mate.

Mike it's trying to marry what I do into this stunning lens I use, that's what I'm digging at;)

thanks as always (y)

I haven’t played with extension tubes for years, but when I did they came as a set that could be used individually or in combination with each other. The more extension you attach, the minimum and maximum focus distances become closer. You also lose a couple of stops of light.

Thank you both so much, I have a love affair with a certain butterfly, silver washed fratiliary....hopefully....HOPEFULLY we might get some time with them and the tube/s to explore after reading your posts I've added in the ef 12 ii aswell

thanks both
