Hi,

Has anyone used extension bellows as an alternative to macro lenses? If so, what sort of results have you found? Did you reverse mount your lens or use in normal orientation?

Has anyone seen any videos or tutorials on the net regarding using them?

Thanks

Steve

Careful as your auto functions can be compromised. I have used manual cameras and lenses for macro and got stunning results. DOF struggles so make friends with f22 and f32!

Thanks for this.

I do have a question - how do I set the aperture of lens if there is no electrical connection between the camera and the lens?

you have to use a lens with an aperture dial - i.e. the older ones

not necessarily - this works on Canon lenses at least, not sure about others

mount your lens as normal, set your apperture to what is required, press your DoF preview button and unmount your lens

Your lens should stay stepped down.

Now mount on bellows at your smaller aperture

Complete pain in the Ass....... Can get some good results but very difficult to use, only really suitable for use on ststic objects

If you don't use auto bellows you will struggle - when trying to focus with a lens set at f16 on the end of 12" of bellows you will see nothing in the viewfinder apart from darkness, its also difficult to get light onto the subject from the front due to the tiny working distances, depending on the lens some work better than others reverse mounted and you can get massive magnifications .
