Has anyone else had a problem with a canon 400d under exposing. I am having to conpensate up to 1 stop to get my exposure correct, it does not matter what the lighting conditions or what lens i use. I have checked it against another 400d and there is a diference in exposure I have reset the camera to factory settings but the problem is still there.

Nope not had that problem.

What mode are you testing in? Manual, Av, Tv etc?

Oh and welcome to TP!

My 400d had a tendency to OVERexpose a bit rather than underexpose.. Are you shooting in (P)rogram mode? Also a sample shot with all the EXIF intact might help us help you :)

ive tried it in all modes and settings and get the same results

I think we need to see an image.

It can only be one of 3 things:

Operator error
Your monitor is too bright
Camera is playing up

How do you determine it is a stop under? Histogram? Just looking? On screen? On camera LCD?

Yes the real question is:-
How are u judging the image to be over or under?

I have had this camera for over 2 year and did not observe +/- exposure other the when i had dialed it in.

I'm going to hazzard a guess that you're viewing JPG's straight form the camera and that your picture style setting is <natural> or <faithful>.

If this is the case then I suggest trying <standard> to see if you can detect any improvement.

If there is improvement but not enough for your liking then I think the best way forwards is to create your own style in one of the <user defined> boxes.....see page 63, 64, 81 & 82 of your manual

The 400D has had many reports of under and overexposure during its time and this may help you out of it.
