Yes
A few days ago I ordered a camera on Jessops website and selected home delivery as it said there were none in stock in my local store. Today, however, I decided to ring up to make sure that they definitely had none in store, as my order still had not been dispatched and I thought I'd try to speed up the process a bit. The person I spoke to informed me that they had actually got one left in their store, put me on hold for a short while and came back to confirm. I asked him if it was a display camera, and he said no. So I cancelled my order I'd made online and went to my local store to buy it again. He told me they were having some difficulties with the system because it was saying there weren't any in stock because the system was acting as though it was a display item, but 'really it isn't'. I paid for it (after being in the store for over an hour because of all types of complications), took it home and noticed the seal on the box had quite obviously been taken off and stuck back on again as it was half hanging off. I have quite clearly been lied to, and I would like my money back, but more importantly I do still want the camera - but a brand new one. Is it acceptable for me to request a brand new one with a 20% discount for the amount of messing around they've given me? I could've simply carried on waiting for the one I ordered online to be delivered, but I cancelled the order because I was made to believe that they had a brand new product in store, which was not true. Was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience!

Similar happened to me at Jessops about a year or so ago, ordered a Fuji compact as a gift for someone, when I collected it, it was obviously unsealed and they gave a "only opened to check contents" spiel.

When I got home, I found a number of images in the internal memory, of said staff members larking about in the staff room. I was offered a discount on keeping the display unit, but not on a new replacement.

They are under no obligation to offer discount at all, unfortunately.

Happened to me, again with Jessops, when I brought a interfit lighting system. Got home to find it had been already opened, so most likely used, but the icing on the cake was that the interfit dvd had been copied and placed in a jessops dvd case, with a interfit cover.

Took back to store and complained, no discount offered, just an apology and I got to keep and use the item until my new one arrived.

I was in a good mood that day so didn't make much of a fuss, plus the girl who was managing the store, was very pleasant and I find it harder to argue with people who smile

The chances of getting a discount, any discount never mind 20% (which will be all of their profit and a bit more), for the "inconvenience" are zero....

Johnnypanic - they definitely should've offered you a discount for wasting your time, whether or not they didn't realise what they'd done. The thing with my situation is the fact they've explicitly said TWICE that I was buying a brand new product, when they knew full well they were lying to me!

Unbelievable. How much discount did they offer you on the display unit?

It was a while ago, and I refused it and returned the camera (it was a gift). It was either 15% or 20%, but it seemed they were more worried about me not publicising the incident and releasing the photos of their staff gurning at the camera.

Bought a flash a few years ago... "Batteries not included".

So the fact that batteries were included was a major give away that this had been used or on display or demo'd at some point.

Took it back and got a new one.
