After 6 years of shooting with a DSLR (first the Sony A200 and now the A77) I finally feel I am starting to get somewhere and understand the camera and techniques (slightly) better :)

I wish I could go back to before I began and take some photos of my Granny who is no longer with us, my wee old dog who has also passed away and my old Astra 2.0 turbo :D

It would be great to be able to take some decent photos of them all knowing, what I know now :)

Know what I mean? :bonk:

Know exactly what you mean.
I did a lot of my travelling before i got into photography (could appreciate a good photo, but just 'snapped' most of the time)

Got underexposed pictures of Sugar Loaf in Rio, and blurry squint pictures of Sydney harbour bridge etc.... brings me to tears when i look at them :) doohhhh....

Still, onwards and upwards, got great pics of my little daughters now ;) and i'm sure i'll get to some of those places again...

Same as Craig. Travelled a lot in my 20's and had no real interest in photography. Now I'd LOVE to go back to some of those places with my camera.

I would love to take a nice series of pictures of my father (he passed away when i was 3 and we only have 1 B&W faded blurry picture of him).

Like Craig I visited a bunch of places before I had a DSLR, and would love to go back again with a better understanding (and better camera).

It's always people that you miss really at the end of the day. Too many friends and relations I wish I had any or better photos of now that it's too late.

No. No point. Each photo took when I first started still stands as far as I'm concerned, and, for me, is a marker on my journey through photography.

Sure, I realise looking through my old work that I would have done a better job today. I would have paid more attention to detail, considered the composition more, but in the end there is no desire to go back. Even in cases where I could go back, I would feel that I've been there and done that, and if I should go back it'll be for other reasons than recreating what I've already done.

Nope, not at all. You can never go back to a particular point in time. The past has gone forever. Learn from it, if you can and want to, but move on.

A few years ago we had some holidays in Scotland where the scenery was amazing and the sun shone for the whole time. I wish I had the knowledge that I have now as the holiday photo's would have been a whole lot better! :)

I only wish I'd had the balls to try it out when we lived in Northern Ireland, what a fantastic place to live in with a camera, I'm tempted to go back on a photography trip but I'm not sure my kids would forgive me for going back alone

I'm in the no, never look back camp.

I understand about people no longer with us though.

For the people yes! I would love nothing more than to have Pictures of my grandparents, but when looking back at the photos I have from everyday photos no! There is something rewarding about seeing the improvement, makes me feel extremely lucky to be in a place where it can all be done again.. And captured better.

I wish I could go back and change the number of photos I've taken. The many events that I've relived through the photos but didn't properly *live* them at the time. Things like my beloved Portsmouth winning the FA Cup semi and final; took streams of photos but did I get as much out of the day as the other fans, maybe not...

I was travelling back from Los Angeles to vegas at midnight on in a hire car literally in the middle of nowhere I pulled off the interstate on to a dirt track luckily had my camera and tripod but I had only just got my dslr and didnt know what to do, I tried to get the starry night in the most light free place I'd been seeing as there was nothing around for over 100 miles! Unfortunately I hadn't a clue and used f16 for 4 minutes and got 2 stars lol, the missus woke up scared that we were in the film set the hills Have eyes and made me drive away - what a waste

Yup. I've just had my parents visiting from the UK, we went to some amazing places around Oz, and took a few half decent photos. No way I was going to waste the time there (and the time with my family) staring through a camera all holiday though.

We made a bit of time to take a couple of 'proper' photos of us all together, but it's the crap happy snaps that mean something and they're the ones I'll look at in future.

Life's for living, not for photographing.

For me it's not so much going back in time with the knowledge I've got now, but I would like to go back with the camera I've got now. When I started shooting digital years ago the technology was very poor compared to today, like under 1 megapixel and a max ISO stuck at 100. I'd love to re shoot some of the bands again and get some really good quality pics.
