Hi,
new here, so please bear with me
We are small but hopefully nice studio located at the east corner of Czech Republic and we already have some experience with masking. Basically - we mask most of our studio shoots.
As for studio, we use white bg, which becomes slight grey, which I find optimal for masking/adding a texture, as there is not much of a color spill to fix. However - we are starting with the event photography. We already did 4 events and clients brought their own ones. Looked like printed on vinyl. Man, it was almost impossible to light properly without any reflections. And should I add, it costed client a lots of money anyway?
So, while I kind of don't like the green screens, after some investigation (and if some automatition SW is added, e.g. a Photokey), I can find it workable for events, where everything happens so quickly and there is no time for precise masking.
As we want to have it easily transportable, we excluded vinyl options, as those can't be easily folded and are heavy. Basically, we narrowed it down to two options - more traditional 2.7x6m (9'x20'), non reflective (well, in theory), wrinkle free material from Westcott and Lastolite panoramic bg.
As for me, I like Lastolite more - it is wide enough - 4m, well, maybe a less, because it needs to be folded a bit, but still - it can cover larger groups. But - there is nothing under the foots. I can see 90% or even more don't shoot full body shots. But what if the client wants one? We would have to combine it with something else.
And then, there is a traditional Westcott solution. And I don't know what I will miss more - ability to shoot full body shots, or the ability to shoot larger groups? Because with green, we should place subjects at some distance from the screen and the field of view starts to narrow.
I have seen some youtube videos and I found the old one, showing Lastolite panoramic black cover of a really bad quality. And it costs lots of money. The video was old - 2013. So, please - has anyone an experience with the Lastolite panoramic here? Would you buy it again, today? Or would you use some other solution?
Thanks a lot,
Petr
