I am thinking of getting a very large softbox/octabox (120-200cm) to use with my speedlights. Reading a few threads, it seems that while one flash will possibly fill such a large softbox two speedlights will do so more reliably and recycle faster. I will try manual but I quite like ETTL as I have to work fast before my subjects get stroppy but I wondered whether ETTL still works reliably if I have two 580s in the same softbox (plus others on different channels for fill, backlight etc)?

I use 4 in a softbox, fits fine, upping to 8 soon, might be a squeeze... ettl works fine

If you use a long ettl cord connected to one of the flashes and set the other flashes as slaves using canon's wireless system you'll be able to fire both the guns inside the soft box with ettl control and also fire fill / back ground lights with ettl and ratio control.

or you could spend a fortune on the pocket wizard flex system :gag: to loose the cable.

Cheers Colin, good to hear. Do you leave them pointing straight forwards or angle them around the box (or do you have one of those 4-way heads that point them in different directions naturally)?

I am hoping to still have line of sight as the flashes will stick out the back in a strobies bracket (plus I'll be shooting indoors) so would like the st-e2 to control them wirelessly. But a long cord is a possibility.

I had a mount made, its set as a cross, 90cm sofbox, point where you like, 60cm softbox is a bit more restricted..

Digi's right, I use mine on a race track, so PW Flex system is the only way to go and works so good

The e2 will do the same job as the cord..... I just don't know anyone who had enough spare money to buy one
