I have a new external 1TB Seagate hard drive (USB Plug and Play) which is great and works nice and fast.

BUT...

When I edit photographs using my Lightroom software, the hard drive is creating Cache00000001, cache0000002 etc named files for each image.

It is as if the LR/HD has decided to create a backup of all the photos. But it doesn't back up a photo, because each file is listed as a VIDEO CD file, each approx 8Mb in size, so I have to keep deleting them all.

What is causing this? I haven't changed or altered my software to make any back ups at all, and it is only happening since I plugged in this hard drive.

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

I think your looking at the lightroom cache, LR uses this as part of it's image previews, unless you have changed the default it should be a max of 1gb, if you want to clear it open LR edit/preferences/file handling/purge cache.

Are you importing to another location? Also what are your previews rendering set to?

LR is on default install folder on C drive.

I had 3 small external hard drives added via USB, and all was normal.

Then I bought the Seagate 1TB, and this is now in via its USB, and labelled as "Expansion Drive F".

The Seagate is plug 'n' play, and I changed no settings in LR either before or after adding the Seagate.

I just changed the directory to import the photos from my SD card to be saved in a 2009 folder on the Seagate, and that's all I have done.

Everything else is still at the default settings in Lightroom.

Paul.
